Wow! What a difference a coat of paint makes. Everyone arrived eager to help make a difference at Covenant House. Many of the residents and employees told me how grateful they were to TELUS for helping out. This was my first time participating in the TELUS Day of Service as I joined the company in November last year. I volunteered to be the VAP for the removal of invasive species at the Ladner Habour Park and it was great fun!

Our activity involved the removal of blackberry bushes that were preventing newly planted Poplar trees from growing as they should. Though the task seemed intimidating at first, we quickly got busy and by the time we were done 2 hours later, we could instantly see the difference! We even got compliments from the few locals who were at the park. I had a great time, met new people and I am grateful to the organizers for planning the event! (Delta Park and Recreation)

I was very proud and excited to participate in the TELUS Day of Service with my two teenagers. Participating in future TELUS events like this will definitely be a priority for our family. The TELUS Day of Service at Ladner Harbour Park or as my teenagers re-named it "Attack of the Invasive Species" provided myself and my family with an opportunity to help our environment. In such a short period of time, our small team removed a significant amount of the pervasive Blackberry bushes; my girls and I felt a real sense of accomplishment. We will definitely be participating in next year's Day of Service event, and will volunteer for an outdoor activity in which all of my family can participate. (Delta Park and Recreation)

The sun was shining, the birds were singing and the blackberry bushes were out of control!

It was explained to us by the Corporation of Delta's landscape specialist that the blackberry bushes were choking out a grove of Poplar trees that had been planted to aid the environment (these trees are known to absorb airborne and waterborne pollution). The task at hand looked daunting as the bushes stood over seven feet tall, but our group of TELUS employees and their families made short work of the thorny brambles, clearing a fence line (on both sides) that measured over 100 feet in the two hours we were given to complete the job. It is true that a few people can make a difference. I felt tired but it was a great tired. The spirit of the team and children that were out there was incredible. This was the first time I was able to participate in the TELUS Day of Service. I was very pleasantly surprised to find many of my team-mates, old and new, participating in the TELUS Day of Service. It is indeed fun and exciting to take part in TDOS – it was my first time ever that I cut thorns in a rural park. It was so satisfying to see the instant results of the hard work. The timing couldn't be more perfect - excellent day and excellent engagement from everyone who attended. Volunteers did all assigned tasks diligently while having fun as well. It was a great opportunity to give back and for most that I've talked to, everyone was in agreement that we do not have to wait for this specific time of the year to participate. Great teamwork in the room as we plowed through many receipt booklets to prepare deposit slips and to reconcile cash to receipts. I enjoyed the spirited teamwork of both TELUS and the Canadian Cancer Society team members. (Canadian Cancer Society)

My wife and I are happy that we were given the opportunity to participate in this activity. It gave us a sense of accomplishment especially when the total on the deposit slips tally with the total amount from the receipts.
